I have decided to share the protocols and products that I use to keep myself and my family well and support them through any colds/flu's/viruses they come home with.
Most of these are age old remedies that have proven the test of time. You can easily search any of them to make them yourself or purchase mine that I have to offer at the bottom of this page.
I have tried to keep it simple and concise.
Protocol I Use When Anyone Comes Home Sick
My favourite "holy trinity" to use is Lavender, Tea Tree Oil and Eucalyptus.
Camphor is wonderful for all things respiratory as well.
I like the old school candle burners myself but get them in the air however you choose.
This good ‘ol fashioned traditional folk remedy is just what you need to boost your immune system and fight off cold and flu symptoms.
Fire Cider is a potent herbal concoction that contains raw organic apple cider as the base.
Mine has Organic Ginger, Garlic, Onion, Horseradish, Turmeric Root & Cayenne
The Extra Strength from Costco is the way to go. I take 3 drops 3x a day if I feel anything coming on. Right under your tongue is best.
In my family we have oregatongue and orgegatoes. For those that can not or will not take orally, put 6-7 drops in a wee bit of carrier oil in your hand so you can smooth it onto their feet.
Do Not underestimate the power of tea! I have an Immunity tea blend used when you have been exposed or are coming down with symptoms. I also have a respiratory tea and other supportive teas that I have put together to share with you and those I love easily.
Although no scientific evidence supports quartering and placing onions around the home when someone is sick my experience tells me otherwise. When added to my existing protocol I found that any sickness stays isolated to the infected person and does not spread to the rest of the household.
Soup soothes the soul! Whether its straight up good quality bone broth or something yummier made with it. It is the nourishment the body needs to restore itself. Bone broth is rich in minerals and also contains many other healthy nutrients, including vitamins, amino acids, and essential fatty acids
The plants have so much healing to offer us. I make many tinctures with love and gratitude with the plants I grow here myself. Tinctures are an alcohol extract that you take directly under your tongue in dropper form. I have put together a respiratory and immunity blend but many more will be available soon...
A mustard plaster is a home remedy believed to ease symptoms of respiratory conditions. It’s mainly used for coughing and congestion, but it’s also used for pain such as back aches, cramps and arthritis.
I grew up with chronic bronchitis and this was a staple in recovery.
A little spoon of local honey straight up as needed is one of the most simple but effective soothing agent for sore throats. I suggest looking up the benefits of local raw honey... there are many.
Make a tea or gargle out of dried Sage leaves for any throat or mouth infection. Add honey to the tea to taste.
Depending on what ails the tummy there are a few options. The 1st question to ask is does the gut need warming or cooling? Then make tea.
Mints for cooling, ginger for warming.
Catnip for griping/clenching
Fennel Seeds for indigestion, bloating, flatulence and constipation (Crush seeds)
To rehydrate from the gradually flu use ice chips. Our families 1st favourite food is frozen wild blueberries.
Garlic has shown promise as a treatment for preventing colds and the flu. Studies have shown that garlic may reduce the risk of becoming sick in the first place, as well as how long you stay sick. It may also reduce the severity of symptoms.
And it's yummy! Food as Medicine. Make it tasty... no need to overdue it
Use a vaporizer to get moisture in the air, whether using a cool or warm mist, may also help ease symptoms such as nasal and chest congestion, along with coughing.
For acute sinus or respiratory ailments the old fashioned steam tent is very effective. I bowl of steamy water with just one drop of lavender and eucalyptus. Lean over the bowl with a towel covering your head and the bowl and breath it in.
